CATU Picket Information Circular October 2026
Public sector trade unions are going on strike on Wednesday 14th October and 21st October in pursuit of a dignified pay deal that will challenge inflation and the cost of living. Over 300,000 workers are going on strike and there will be reduced services and affected areas.
Council buildings, schools, universities, hospitals, ambulance depots, governmental department offices and many other locations across the country will have pickets.
A picket is a group of workers outside their employer engaging in protest, usually taking place when workers strike.
All CATU members are asked to show support to the striking workers. A victory for a dignified pay deal that meets the wants and needs of the workers’ is a demand we can all get behind. If workers can secure a dignified public sector agreement, then we are one step closer to finally ending the housing crisis.
You can show support by:
* Stopping by and expressing your support and having a chat
* Beeping your car horn as you drive by
* Dropping over a pack of biscuits or teas / coffees
* Offering the use of your toilet facilities if you live / work nearby
* Making supportive signs/placards
* Contacting your local TD calling on them to call on the government to
* negotiate with the trade union movement
