CATU is now open for All Island Membership.

Thank you to everyone who came to the Mountjoy and Dorset St, Community Action Tenants Union Launch on Saturday!

35 community/tenant members and people interested in the Union discussed the range of issues impacting on us and what we could do about them. Rent Freezes, Public Control of Bins, more community funding, community lead development, a charter of good maintenance, public housing and banning short term lets were all put forward as the major demands and potential campaigns! – But in the end one Campaign was voted on: A Campaign to End Evictions in Our Community.

A committee was voted in to carry that campaign forward and to build the union locally. The Committee will be organising monthly member meetings for Mountjoy & Dorset St and, with all members in the area, they will be planning the next steps to the campaign this month.

This was a brilliant start to CATU Ireland.

In just 5 months a huge effort has been put in to get CATU off the ground; setting the Union up legally, doing doorknocking and stalls, taking community and anti-eviction actions and organising meetings and then our local launch.

Particularly thanks to Dublin Central Housing Action, A4 Sounds and Dublin Adult Learning Centre for the help and support.

CATU is now open for All Island Membership.
